NanoTherapeutics co-supervised PhD student Dr Kate Hills has successfully defended her thesis and graduated following her viva examination.

Kate, who was jointly supervised by Dr Rob Wykes and Dr Tom Kisby, worked closely with the team throughout her doctoral training to develop and validate new experimental models for the testing of nanomaterial-based technologies. Her research provided important insights into the biological mechanisms underlying glioblastoma-associated epilepsy, exploring how seizures may influence tumour progression and disease phenotype.

The project generated a series of exciting and impactful findings that advance understanding of glioma biology, particularly in the context of tumour–neural network interactions and seizure activity.

Kate successfully defended her thesis at viva, examined by Prof Mark Cunningham (Trinity College Dublin) and Dr Gareth Morris (University of Manchester).

She now progresses to a postdoctoral position at the UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology. The lab wishes her every success in the next stage of her career.
